7:48 AM 9/15/2009: Got Another Phone call...

This morning from a tech who wants to leave the business and sell me his stock and customer lists. I wonder if everybody that has this "times are hard" mindset are helping to bring themself down.

All repairs businesses do better in harder times if run well. As people have less money and wish to get things fixed (like computers) as it is cheaper then buying new. Then when people learn that they will have to reinstall many of their programs and such, the idea of a repair seems even better to most.

I think one of the traps some of the techs are falling for is "times are hard I have to beat everybody elses price". While having a fair price (I have not raised mine in 5+ years) is good. Trying to bend over backwards to beat everybody is business suicide. The way you beat other business is to be better then them. Fair price, Honest service, making sure you have more knowledge and experience then others around you.

If you do all this then 1st your current customers will sell you. (tell friends and family). 2nd you will sell you better. When you REALLY know that you have the better product or service it just shows. And 3rd you will keep your current customers. Too many businesses do nothing but try to get new people in the door and forget the current customer. They will be the ones to keep everything running along when times are slow. Keep them in mind at all times.

Well time to hit the road fo service calls.
