7:41 AM 9/18/2009: Review of the D-Link WBR-2310...

Well I almost never post product reviews here or on any of my other sites. But sometimes when a really great product comes along I feel the need to let others know about it.

Well too bad for D-Link this is not one of the times I am going to do that. Instead we are going to review a product that should never have been released to the public. The D-Link WBR-2310 wireless router.

In my shop I have alot of switches, routers ect with miles of cables going all over the place. So I know a bit about networking computers. But I needed just a simple cheap box for home to replace a old Microsoft MN-700 that lasted the better part of a decade.

Nothing to weird going on at home (I save the experiments for the shop), Just one hardwired PC and a few laptops on the wireless.

So I picked up a D-Link WBR-2310 wireless router one day, set it up in about 3 minutes and back to happy computing!

Then a few days later the love of my life says "Honey is the Internet on?" Ok, quick reboot. Problem solved. Except I kept getting error code "Honey is the Internet on?" from the love of my life almost every day for a week.

Well after fixing computers all day I really don't want to fix my own, but sometimes you can't avoid it. So I search the web and find out this box has lots of problems with wireless and that there is a firmware fix for it. Ok, easy enough. Flash new firmware and back in the game.

Well the wireless worked ok except less signal now. Then just weird things started to happen.... Slow page loads, random lockups ect...

Not enough to make you go out and buy a new router but enough to get on your nerves. Then one night I get the error code "Honey is the Internet on?" again.

But this time nothing fixes it. Resets, reflashes ect... It's just a plastic brick. I got a new router (Not D-Link) and all is well again in Internet land.

This router was less the 45 days old when it kicked the bucket for good. Guess what router I am going to suggest you do not buy?
