PURPOSE:
JasTek.net's SiteBlocker is a easy to use utility that lets you block websites that you
don't wish to be accessed from your computer.

This is useful if you have kids or employees that visit sites you don't wish them to.
It is also useful to block ads, cookies and other files you do not wish to receive from some sites.
It does this by modifying the Windows HOSTS file.

The HOSTS file is used by Windows to help your computer find other systems on the net faster.
So when you type "http://www.goggle.com" your computer looks to see if the URL or address is
already in the HOSTS file. If it is not, it then contacts your ISP's computers and gets the address
from them.

What JasTek's SiteBlocker does is takes a site you want blocked and then puts a entry into your HOST file.
Telling your system to look for the site at your computers loopback address of 127.0.0.1
What happens next is your computer will not find the site at that address and the web browser will tell you
said webpage can not be displayed.

The computer user in most cases will think the website is down or the URL has changed.
And they can not access the site.

HOW TO INSTALL:
You need to copy the file "JasTeknetSiteBlocker" into the right folder for your O/S.

For Windows XP copy to...
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

For Windows 2000 copy to...
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

For Windows 98/ME copy to...
C:\Windows

Then just make a shortcut to "JasTeknetSiteBlocker".

HOW TO RUN:
All you need to do is click on the shortcut you have made and a box will popup asking you to
type in the name of the site you wish to block.
So if you wished to block "www.porn.com" you would just type that in the box.

After you have done this the program will confirm you have blocked a new site.
Click ok and it will then close.

NOTE:
With older computers you may need to reboot the system before the site is blocked.

REMOVING BLOCKED SITES:
You have to do this manually.
If you wanted to unblock "www.porn.com".

For Windows XP go to...
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
And edit the HOST file in notepad.
You want to delete the line...
127.0.0.1 www.porn.com and then save the file.
Never delete the line 127.0.0.1 localhost

For Windows 2000 go to...
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
And edit the HOST file in notepad.
You want to delete the line...
127.0.0.1 www.porn.com and then save the file.
Never delete the line 127.0.0.1 localhost

For Windows 98/ME go to...
C:\Windows
And edit the HOST file in notepad.
You want to delete the line...
127.0.0.1 www.porn.com and then save the file.
Never delete the line 127.0.0.1 localhost

UNINSTALL:
Just delete the file "JasTeknetSiteBlocker" and the shortcut you made to it.
All sites you have block will still be blocked.
See above how to unblock sites if you wish to do that also.

Enjoy the program.
