Active-matrix technology is used in flat panel displays found in many laptops and thin width computer monitors.

The images are created by laying small semiconductors, over a grid of wires. When a current passes through the diodes, they light up in different colors, depending on the strength of the current. Many Thousands of these diodes are used to form a image on the screen.
