RenoGeek's Computer Terms Glossary - ADSL

ADSL or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. Is a type of DSL, which is a method of transferring data over telephone lines. Unlike DSL, ADSL has different maximum data transfer rates for uploading and downloading data.

Both ADSL and DSL "piggyback" data through the older copper cables of most phone companies. As these lines were never designed to carry data this way some customers experience poor performance when compared to some other types of data exchange, like cable or fiber optic connections.
