A dead link is a hyperlink on the world wide web that points to a webpage or file that is permanently unavailable.

While very commonplace on the Internet they are considered to be unprofessional by website designers and effort is made to make sure all site links are in working order at all times. A website with many dead links is a sure sign that a website is outdated and not being maintained.
